Creating Communities That Recognize, Respond, and Prevent Domestic Violence
At The Hiding Place, we believe that ending domestic violence requires more than responding to crisis—it requires education, awareness, collaboration, and prevention.
Through community education and professional training, we equip individuals, organizations, and community leaders with the knowledge and tools needed to recognize abuse, respond appropriately, support survivors, and help create safer communities for everyone.
Together, we can change the conversation, strengthen our response, and build communities where survivors are believed, supported, and empowered.

Healthy Relationships, Safe Spaces™
A Signature Prevention Seminar for Teens
Healthy relationships begin with education, honest conversations, and safe spaces where young people can learn to recognize both healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviors before patterns of abuse begin.
The Hiding Place's Healthy Relationships, Safe Spaces™ Seminar is a trauma-informed prevention curriculum created specifically for middle school and high school students. This engaging and interactive program equips teens with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to build healthy relationships, recognize warning signs of abuse, establish personal boundaries, and seek help when needed.
Rather than focusing solely on dating violence, the curriculum encourages students to understand the characteristics of respectful relationships, healthy communication, self-worth, emotional safety, and the importance of surrounding themselves with supportive people and safe communities.
Through age-appropriate discussions, real-life scenarios, interactive activities, and survivor-informed education, students are empowered to think critically about relationships, challenge unhealthy norms, and develop skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
Seminar Topics May Include:
Building Healthy Relationships
Understanding Respect, Trust, and Communication
Recognizing Warning Signs and Red Flags
Coercive Control and Emotional Abuse
Healthy Boundaries
Self-Worth and Identity
Social Media and Digital Safety
Peer Pressure and Healthy Decision-Making
Supporting a Friend Who May Be Experiencing Abuse
Accessing Trusted Adults and Community Resources
The Healthy Relationships, Safe Spaces™ Seminar can be customized for middle schools, high schools, youth organizations, churches, athletic programs, and community groups. Our goal is to equip the next generation with the knowledge and confidence to build healthy relationships, recognize abuse early, and help create safer schools and stronger communities.
Because prevention begins with education, and education has the power to change lives.

Safe Churches, Safe Spaces™
A Signature Training of The Safe Sanctuary Initiative
Churches are often one of the first places survivors turn when they need hope, guidance, and support. Yet many pastors, ministry leaders, and volunteers have never received training on recognizing domestic violence, responding to disclosures, or safely walking alongside survivors.
The Hiding Place created Safe Churches, Safe Spaces™ as a comprehensive, trauma-informed training designed to equip churches to become places of refuge, healing, and hope for individuals and families impacted by domestic violence.
As the cornerstone of The Safe Sanctuary Initiative, this training helps churches move beyond awareness by developing practical policies, compassionate responses, and meaningful partnerships that create safer environments for survivors seeking help.
Our vision is to build a network of churches throughout our communities that are prepared to recognize abuse, respond with wisdom, and connect survivors with the resources they need to heal and rebuild their lives.
Training Topics May Include
Understanding Domestic Violence Beyond Physical Abuse
Recognizing Coercive Control and Patterns of Abuse
Trauma-Informed Ministry
Responding to Disclosures with Compassion and Wisdom
Healthy Theology and Abuse
Supporting Survivors While Holding Those Who Cause Harm Accountable
Safety Planning Within the Church
Children's Safety and Family Considerations
Building Community Partnerships
Creating Church Policies and Response Plans
Developing a Survivor-Centered Ministry Culture
The Safe Sanctuary Initiative
The Safe Sanctuary Initiative is The Hiding Place's long-term vision to equip churches to become trusted places of safety and support for survivors of domestic violence.
Through training, consultation, policy development, ongoing education, and community partnerships, participating churches will be equipped to:
Recognize the signs of domestic violence and coercive control.
Respond to survivors with compassion, dignity, and trauma-informed care.
Develop policies and practices that promote safety within the church.
Build relationships with community organizations and referral partners.
Create environments where survivors feel safe asking for help.
Strengthen ministries that reflect Christ's heart for the vulnerable and oppressed.
Our goal is to establish a growing network of churches committed to creating safe sanctuaries where survivors are believed, supported, and connected to hope.

Why Education Matters
Domestic violence affects individuals of every age, background, profession, and community.
Many survivors suffer in silence because abuse goes unrecognized, warning signs are misunderstood, or people simply don't know how to help.
Education has the power to change that.
By increasing awareness and strengthening community partnerships, we can reduce barriers to support, encourage earlier intervention, and create environments where survivors feel safe asking for help.
Every conversation has the potential to save a life.

Survivor-Informed Education
No single organization can end domestic violence alone.
We believe lasting change happens when nonprofits, schools, healthcare providers, law enforcement, faith communities, businesses, and community leaders work together with a shared commitment to prevention and survivor support.
Education strengthens collaboration.
Collaboration strengthens communities.
Stronger communities create safer futures for survivors and their families.
