Chrysalis Housing

About this Initiative

Chrysalis Housing provides trauma-informed transitional housing for women and children rebuilding their lives after domestic violence. More than a place to stay, Chrysalis Housing is a place to heal, rebuild, and prepare for long-term independence.

Residents receive safe, furnished housing while working alongside advocates to establish financial stability, pursue employment or education, strengthen parenting skills, build healthy relationships, and continue their healing journey.

Our program is intentionally designed to provide the time, support, accountability, and community needed to move from crisis to confidence and from survival to stability.

A Community That Believes in Transformation

The word chrysalis represents transformation.

Just as a butterfly undergoes remarkable change within the safety of a chrysalis, we believe survivors deserve a safe space where they can heal, rediscover their strength, and prepare for a future free from abuse.

At Chrysalis Housing, every room represents more than housing—it represents hope.

Residents participating in Chrysalis Housing receive access to:

  • Safe, fully furnished transitional housing

  • Individual advocacy and case management

  • Trauma-informed support groups

  • Safety planning

  • Financial literacy and budgeting education

  • Goal planning and life skills coaching

  • Community resources and referrals

  • A supportive community focused on healing and long-term independence

What Residents Can Expect

As residents begin rebuilding financial stability, those with income will be asked to make an affordable program contribution as part of their residency. This contribution helps residents practice budgeting and prepares them for the responsibilities of maintaining permanent housing while supporting the sustainability of the Chrysalis Housing program.

Every resident's circumstances are reviewed individually, and our team works alongside each woman to develop a plan that supports both her immediate safety and her long-term success.

Building Toward Independence

Intake & Assessment Process

Every resident accepted into Chrysalis Housing begins with a comprehensive intake and assessment process. This process allows our team to better understand each woman's unique circumstances, identify immediate needs, and ensure that Chrysalis Housing is an appropriate fit for both the applicant and the current resident community.

Our intake process is designed to be welcoming, trauma-informed, and centered on the survivor's individual goals. We recognize that sharing personal experiences can be difficult, and our staff are committed to conducting every assessment with compassion, dignity, and respect.

As part of the intake process, applicants will participate in an interview with a member of The Hiding Place team to discuss their current situation, safety concerns, housing needs, and personal goals. Information gathered during this process helps staff develop an individualized support plan and identify resources that will best support the resident during her stay.

The intake and assessment process may include:

  • Review of current housing and safety needs.

  • Domestic violence and trauma history as it relates to services requested.

  • Immediate safety planning.

  • Household composition, including children residing with the applicant.

  • Medical, mental health, or accessibility considerations.

  • Employment, education, and financial status.

  • Transportation needs.

  • Legal concerns or protective orders.

  • Community resource needs and referrals.

  • Individual goals for participation in the program.

Call our hotline at 888.341.9568 for further info.

Following the assessment, program staff will determine whether Chrysalis Housing is the most appropriate service based on the applicant's needs, program availability, safety considerations, and the program's ability to provide appropriate support. If Chrysalis Housing is not the best fit, The Hiding Place will make every reasonable effort to provide referrals to other community resources whenever possible.

Our goal is to ensure that every resident enters Chrysalis Housing with a clear understanding of the program, realistic expectations, and a personalized plan that supports her journey toward safety, healing, and long-term independence.

What Sets Us Apart

We Don't Just Provide Housing—We Walk Alongside Survivors

Unlike traditional transitional housing programs that focus primarily on providing shelter, Chrysalis Housing is intentionally designed around long-term transformation. Every resident receives individualized advocacy, trauma-informed support, life skills coaching, and a personalized plan that helps her move from crisis to lasting independence.

Healing Happens in Community, Not in Isolation

Chrysalis Housing is more than a residence—it is a healing community. Through support groups, life skills education, shared meals, accountability, and meaningful relationships, residents experience a sense of belonging while learning healthy patterns that support lifelong healing.

We Focus on the Whole Person, Not Just the Immediate Crisis

Domestic violence affects every area of a survivor's life. Our program addresses far more than housing by helping women build emotional wellness, financial stability, healthy parenting, employment readiness, education, safety planning, confidence, and hope for the future.
