SAFE CHURCHES, SAFE SPACES™
A Signature Training of The Safe Sanctuary Initiative™
Equipping Churches to Become Places of Refuge, Healing, and Hope
Churches are often among the first places survivors turn when they need hope, guidance, and support. Yet many pastors, ministry leaders, and volunteers have never received training on recognizing domestic violence, responding to disclosures, or walking alongside survivors in a trauma-informed way.
Safe Churches, Safe Spaces™ is a comprehensive training developed by The Hiding Place to equip churches with the knowledge, practical tools, and confidence needed to respond to domestic violence with compassion, wisdom, and accountability.
As the cornerstone of The Safe Sanctuary Initiative™, this training helps churches move beyond awareness by developing practical response strategies, strengthening ministries, and building meaningful partnerships that create safer environments for survivors seeking help.
Our vision is to build a network of churches throughout our communities where every survivor knows they will be believed, supported, and connected to hope.
For many survivors, their first disclosure is made to a pastor, ministry leader, or trusted member of their church.
While churches desire to help, many leaders have never received specialized education on the dynamics of domestic violence. As a result, survivors may unintentionally receive advice that increases their risk, minimizes their experience, or discourages them from seeking additional support.
Faith communities have a unique opportunity to reflect Christ's compassion by creating environments where survivors experience safety, dignity, and healing.
With the right education and resources, churches can become powerful partners in preventing abuse, supporting survivors, and strengthening families.
Why This Training Matters
Safe Churches, Safe Spaces™ is a trauma-informed training that combines biblical principles, survivor-informed perspectives, and evidence-based best practices to help churches respond wisely and compassionately to domestic violence.
Participants will gain practical tools for recognizing abuse, responding to disclosures, supporting survivors, developing ministry practices that prioritize safety, and connecting families with trusted community resources.
Every training is customized to meet the unique needs, size, and ministry structure of your church.
